Eleven years and two months after the demise of fuji music pioneer, Ayinde Barrister, his fans across the world converged on Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, where they poured words of praise on him.

At the event tagged, ‘Barryfest 2022’ and held at the Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resort, Ibadan, distinguished personalities from the public and private sectors shared the historic moment with enthusiastic Barrister fans.

Guests at the event include the wife of the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Professor Bolanle Olaniyan; Ademola Ige, a special adviser to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; the Ekefa Olubadan of Ibadan, Lekan Alabi; a former Secretary to Oyo State Government, Sarafadeen Ali; and veteran filmmaker, Tunde Kelani.

Kelani told the audience of his four-year-old plan to produce a film to immortalise Barrister as he had done for the late Apala crooner, Ayinla Omowura.

He said, “I want to assure you that the film will be released in 2023 to commemorate the 2023 edition of BarryFest. Alabi, who was a recipient of a special award for his consistent promotion of Yoruba culture, spoke glowingly about Barrister whom he described as a rare musician in the class of the late sakara musician, Yusuf Olatunji.

Another awardee, Dayo Adeyemi (Hunter), who was a former media consultant to Barrister, was quite emotional as he praised the late Barrister’s fans and prayed for their progress. Another awardee, Ademola Adesigbin, who served as secretary to the planning committee, said he was fulfilled by the turnout at the event and unity which he saw among different fans clubs.
