As Prince Archie celebrated his fourth birthday on May 6, proud parents Meghan Markle and Prince Harry received a special surprise at their front door.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were presented with a brand new bike for their eldest child â and the local bike shopâs generous gift did not go unnoticed.
Taking to Instagram, the owners of Mad Dogs & Englishmen Bike Shop in Montecito, Calif., shared the sweet letter they received from the royals.
âOn behalf of Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, please accept their sincere thanks for the thoughtful gift you sent to Prince Archie for his fourth birthday,â reads the letter, which was posted to the bike shopâs Instagram.
âThe bike has brought much joy, and is most appreciated by the family. They asked that I convey their gratitude at the lovely surprise.â
The sweet note was penned by Harrison Colcord on behalf of Harry and Meghan.
The bike, which featured stabilizers, was specialized and appeared to be a dark pink color, according to the image shared on the shopâs Instagram.
Archie also received three birthday balloons as well as a patriotic Union Jack flag.
âWe really hope he enjoys it,â the shop posted on May 7 â the day after Archieâs birthday. âHis little sis can ride as well when she gets a bit bigger.â
And what made the ordeal even more special is that shop owner Jennifer Blevins and her husband Martin didnât expect anything in return after gifting Archie a fancy specialized kidsâ bike.
âHe went and he got one of our little specialized kidsâ bikes â theyâre really nice little bikes â and heâs like, âThis oneâs perfect, itâs got training wheels,ââ Blevins told People. âAnd so he went and got some birthday balloons, and he got some flowers for Meghan and a birthday card, and he said, âOkay, Iâm gonna bike over and take it to their house.ââ
After Martin arrived at Harry and Meghanâs plush $15 million Montecito pad, security staff emerged to ask if he had been invited by the exiled royals.
âHe said, âIâm just a British business in town that wanted to give Archie a gift,’â Jennifer told the outlet.
âA courier came by our little shop on Coast Village Road and he dropped off that letter.â

Jennifer said she joked that the courier was dropping off a thank-you note from the royals.
âI wasnât expecting that. I had no idea,â she said of the surprise. âIt was so thoughtful because, you know, they took the time to write something personal and not just a generic thank you.â
Whatâs more, Jennifer added that âevery celebrity in townâ had purchased bikes from their shop, but ânone of them sent a thank you letter.â
